Sears website down for more than 3 hours on December 22nd

According to WebSitePulse, the Sears website was unavailable from 6:00 am EST until 9:20 am EST on December 22nd.

The leading retailer website experienced availability problems, timing out on most probes at the index page and occasionally at some of the consecutive steps of the monitored web transaction process. WebSitePulse experts believed that the website downtime could have been the result of heavy load or mis-configuration of the Sears.com web servers.

Early morning online visitors of one of the leading web destinations during the Holiday shopping period were unable to connect to the website at all.

WebSitePulse monitoring agent in Washington, DC first detected the malfunction right after the scheduled downtime for all monitored targets, at 06:02 pm EST, and triggered the alarm. Sears.com functionality was immediately tested from multiple locations in the WebSitePulse global monitoring network, as well as by an authorized technician, as part of the standard false alarm prevention procedure. The service was restored by 09:20 am EST on the 22nd.

Sears.com is included in the 2006 Holiday Season Web Performance and Uptime Report generated daily by WebSitePulse between November 24st and December 31th 2006 and available through an RSS feed.
