Facebook DOWN again

Wondering if Facebook is down? It's not just you! In addition to all our World wide monitoring locations reporting the website offline many online users have been reporting issues accessing Facebook. The problems started before 2:30 EST and at this time the website is still inaccessible. We will update our users once the status changes.

UPDATE: September 24, 2010: Facebook started to recover gradually around 6 p.m. EST for its users around the Globe. During the downtime, when users tried to access facebook.com, they would see a message “Service Unavailable — DNS Error.” The actual reason for the outage was a series of problems involving an automated system designed to verify configuration values in the cache and replace invalid values with updated values from the persistent store. An error sent the system into a feedback loop that only cutting traffic to a database cluster and rebooting the site could solve. As Facebook said in their own words this is “the worst outage we’ve had over four years”.
