2011 Holiday Season Report Highlights

  • November 28, 2011 Seems that Cyber Monday brings more surprises to online retailers than Black Friday. Online sales on Cyber Monday, which was started back in 2005 are up like never before, and it seems that an increasing number of people prefer to shop on their PCs and mobile devices than the chaos involved in shopping at a mall.

Toysrus.com (97.5% daily uptime) and Radioshack.com (97.2% daily uptime) are at the bottom of our daily uptime chart. Both of the retailers got problems with the checkout. Some of the tests showed that the products are not added properly to the shopping cart, others implied connection timeout problems.

However those problems shouldn't be counted as serious ones, as they affected only the checkout procedure from time to time between 10 PM and midnight.

The daily Average Response time from all monitored websites was 4.742 sec.; the daily Average Uptime – 99.44%, pretty good results for Cyber Monday.
  • November 26, 2011 Black Friday turned out to be a great day for all online retailers. The sales jumped through the roof and broke all records. According to comScore online Black Friday sales increased with over 24% compared to the same time last year and brought in $816 million in online sales thus becoming the heaviest online spending day to date in 2011

The record numbers are by no means surprising, especially given the fact that 8 out of the 10 sites of the top retailers that we monitored did not fail even for a second. The only sites that didn’t manage to pass the 99.99% mark experienced minor issues in the early hours of the day (slightly after midnight and around 3 AM) . You can see which these sites were in the report below.

The daily Average Response time from all monitored websites was 3.874 sec.; the daily Average Uptime - 99.82%.
