SMTP Authentication

Some SMTP servers use the SMTP AUTH extension to authenticate the users who are allowed to relay messages. If you like to test a email round-trip transaction which uses a SMTP server with enabled authentication you should select a method supported by your server and enter valid credentials. Currently supported are Plain and CRAM-MD5 authentication methods. Our monitoring agent will try to authenticate itself using the username and the password you have provided and alert you accordingly if unsuccessful.

SMTP servers do not require authentication for email domains under their control. Therefore unless you want to send a message that will be relayed to another SMTP server you can safely omit the authentication settings.
