2010 Vacation Planning Report Highlights
- May 20, 2010 Approaching the peak of the vacation planning season, some of the monitored websites in our report started to have issues. Four of the monitored sites showed problems on May 20, 2010.
The issues with hotels.com started at around 1PM showing "500 Internal server error" on their booking page. The problem was resolved shortly, but then at 6:45 PM their home page went down with "503 - Service Unavailable" error for 13 minutes, which should be considered as major downtime for such site, keeping in mind that the error was at their home page.
The problems with the home pages were not only for them. Around 7PM, expedia.com showed significant response time on their home page - the visitors from Sydney and Amsterdam, NL had to wait more than 30 seconds to reach their site, while finally they saw a "504 - Gateway Timeout " error for 12 minutes - not a pleasant message if you are in a rush to book your flight or hotel.
But this was not the biggest downtime for the day. The downtime "leader" for the day scored 15 minutes downtime on home page. The "Failure in receiving network data" error showed on travelnow.com home page and confirmed from Washington, Sydney, Amsterdam and Singapore, indicated a network issue for travelnow.com, most probably caused by their network provider.
The daily Average Response time from all monitored websites was 6.38 sec.; the daily Average Uptime - 99.72%
