Websitepulse 2013 Mother's Day Performance & Uptime Report Summary

This year, Americans seem to feel a bit more flush as they spent more than last year on Mother’s Day. The IBISWorld clearly displays that the total spending for moms reached $17.06 billion compared to the $17.02 billion in 2012.

It is interesting to note that sales for electronics, greeting cards, books, CDs and gardening declined, while sales for gift certificates, clothing and personal services such as a housekeeper for the day or spa went up. Needless to say, the top favorite gifts remained flowers, jewelry and candies.

"It's our second-busiest time of year behind Valentine's Day," Wendi Day, the owner of the Old Town Florist in Portland, Ore., told the Portland Business Journal. "Everyone's paid their taxes. April is a little bit of a lull. (Mother's Day) is real important,” according to MSN Money.

The online shopping for that special day went almost flowlessly for the eight websites we monitored. Uptime for the period between May 01 - 12, 2013 was 100% in most of the time as only Sees.com and Teleflora.com experienced very slight interruptions.

The response time for some websites, however, remained an issue – Teleflora.com had the same high response time as last year – 16.296 seconds. The website with the lowest response time was personalizationmall.com, thus their losses, we assume, must have been brought to minimum.

However, regardless of your online shopping experience, Mother's Day is an occasion that is positive and bright enough to let any website’s response time or downtime affect your mood.

Stay tuned for more performance reports in just a couple of days! In the meantime, take a look at the results for the online retailers in the final report below:

Methodology:
The 2013 Mother's Day Reports reflect a complete web transaction, representative for the End Users' interactions with a website. The reporting period covers the dates between May 05 and May 13, 2013. Performance and availability measurements are made for a typical multi-step web transaction at 15 minute monitoring interval, every day 24/7. The WebSitePulse application monitoring service is used to collect data and to create the reports.
The steps in each transaction are comparable for all websites, and reflect the real online shopper experience. The simultaneous monitoring is performed from 3 US-based locations of the WebSitePulse monitoring network: San Francisco, CA, Chicago, IL, and Washington, DC. In case of a detected malfunction or unavailability, the system performs automated error verification from 3 independent resources and only after the above procedure is performed and has returned consistent results, the detected error is confirmed, recorded, and included in the daily performance reports. In these cases, an advanced WebSitePulse exclusive feature comes into play - Forced Monitoring -, which automatically switches to a 3 minute monitoring interval for increased accuracy.

About WebSitePulse:
WebSitePulse is a leading provider of global, independent, and objective availability and performance monitoring of web sites, servers, network components, web applications, e-business- and email round-trip transactions.
