Websitepulse 2025 Mother's Day Performance & Uptime Report Summary

Mother’s Day 2025 has now passed, with Americans spending a total of $34.1 billion, averaging $259.04 per person, as 84% of the population took part. They allocated $6.8 billion to jewelry, $6.3 billion to special outings, $3.5 billion to gift cards, $3.2 billion to flowers, and $1.1 billion to greeting cards. Many shoppers relied on online channels to browse and order gifts conveniently. Now that the holiday is behind us, we have finished monitoring 11 of the most popular gift-shopping websites for our 2025 Mother's Day Report.

In this Performance Report, WebSitePulse measured the home page's performance and a full web transaction that reflects end-user interactions with the site.

The report measures Uptime and Response Time as the most critical metrics for the availability and reliability of any web-based operation, which is crucial for the end-user's overall online experience. Measurements of multi-step online transactions are taken every 15 minutes, simultaneously, from three different monitoring locations: Washington, D.C. (U.S. East Coast), San Francisco, CA (U.S. West Coast), and Chicago, IL (U.S. Central).

The overall performance of most of the monitored gift-shopping websites demonstrated their preparedness to meet the challenges of the expected heavier web traffic during Mother's Day week. We have found out that the average daily response time from all monitored websites was 2.383 sec., which is 0.207 seconds slower than last year's. The daily average responses by location are as follows:
  • Washington, D.C. (US East Coast) – 2.094 sec
  • San Francisco, CA (US West Coast) – 2.742 sec
  • Chicago, IL (US Central) – 2.312 sec
This year, the speed leader in the Mother's Day Report is, once again, berries.com, with an average response time of 0.863 seconds, followed by sees.com (0.928 sec) and fromyouflowers.com (1.188 sec). Far away at the bottom of the table, this year was urbanstems.com, with 5.543 seconds average response time, which probably frustrated many site visitors and may have led to high website abandonment.

Compared to last year's performance, the three leaders decreased their response time by an average of 0.1 seconds, while the slowest site this year performed worse than the previous year by an average of 0.973 seconds. The daily average uptime for the entire group of 11 websites for the 2025 Mother's Day shopping season was 99.976%. The daily average uptime by location is as follows:
  • Washington, D.C. (US East Coast) – 99.978%
  • San Francisco, CA (US West Coast) – 99.975%
  • Chicago, IL (US Central) – 99.975%
This year, 8 of the 11 monitored gift shopping websites maintained 100% uptime (no interruptions) during the monitoring period. Gifttree.com had the lowest uptime — 99.800% — which was down for nearly 31 minutes during the monitored period.

Methodology:
The 2025 Mother's Day Reports reflect a complete web transaction, representative for the End Users' interactions with a website. The reporting period covers the dates between May 2h and May 12th, 2025. Performance and availability measurements are made for a typical multi-step web transaction at 15 minute monitoring interval, every day 24/7. The WebSitePulse application monitoring service is used to collect data and to create the reports.
The steps in each transaction are comparable for all websites, and reflect the real online shopper experience. The simultaneous monitoring is performed from 3 US-based locations of the WebSitePulse monitoring network: San Francisco, CA, Chicago, IL, and Washington, DC. In case of a detected malfunction or unavailability, the system performs automated error verification from 3 independent resources and only after the above procedure is performed and has returned consistent results, the detected error is confirmed, recorded, and included in the daily performance reports. In these cases, an advanced WebSitePulse exclusive feature comes into play - Forced Monitoring -, which automatically switches to a 3 minute monitoring interval for increased accuracy.

About WebSitePulse:
WebSitePulse is a leading provider of global, independent, and objective availability and performance monitoring of web sites, servers, network components, web applications, e-business- and email round-trip transactions.
