WebSitePulse 2024 Holiday Retail Performance and Uptime Report Intro

The 2024 holiday season kicks off with a bang as Black Friday and Cyber Monday set the stage for weeks of festive cheer, shopping, and celebration.

This year's holiday rush promises deep discounts and enticing deals, making it the perfect time for families and friends to gather, find the perfect gifts, and stock up on seasonal favorites. As lights twinkle and holiday spirits soar, these shopping events mark the beginning of a season that blends tradition, giving, and new memories for everyone to cherish.

The holiday season culminates with the warmth and joy of Christmas, followed by the sparkling celebration of New Year's Eve, as families and friends bid farewell to the year and welcome new beginnings.

The 2024 U.S. holiday shopping season is anticipated to experience modest growth, with the National Retail Federation forecasting a 2.5% to 3.5% increase in sales, totaling between $979.5 billion and $989 billion. This marks the slowest growth rate since 2018, influenced by factors such as persistent inflation and a shorter shopping period between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Retailers are responding by initiating promotions earlier and offering significant discounts to attract budget- conscious consumers. Additionally, online sales are expected to rise by 8% to 9%, reaching up to $297.9 billion, as shoppers increasingly turn to e-commerce platforms for convenience and better deals.

The holiday season holds great importance for online retailers, driven by heightened consumer spending on gifts and festive items. Customers are drawn to the convenience of online shopping, particularly during the bustling holiday period. Retailers seize this opportunity by launching holiday- specific sales and promotions, including Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals. Additionally, the rising popularity of gift cards and e-gifting options further boosts online sales.
