January 21st, 2010  SAT-3 cable break slows internet in South Africa

Dear Valued Customer,

We would like to inform you that we have been experiencing international connectivity problems from our South African location since January 20, 2010. The reason for these problems is a SAT-3 cable break on the London-Bellville link which continues to cause slow international connectivity. Currently a major maintenance on the fault is conducted. The maintenance window will be running from 20-22 January and again from 29 January to 1 February. During these periods, most users of the South Africa location may experience high response times and connectivity problems.

We are in close communication with our counterparts in South Africa and have taken all the necessary measures to provide you with an uninterrupted 24/7 service. To avoid reporting false alert and slower response times, we might have to temporary re-route the tests through our backup locations to ensure the continuous monitoring of your targets.

We will keep you informed of any further developement of the current situation and we will notify you once all connectivity issues have been resolved and the monitoring locations are back to their normal status.
